If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure in Ghana, the Cape St. Paul Lighthouse in Woe, Volta Region, is a hidden gem waiting to be explored.

A Lighthouse with History

Built in 1901, this lighthouse is the only metallic lighthouse in Ghana and stands 25 meters tall with a striking octagonal pyramidal shape. After years of neglect, it was renovated in 2017 and is now fully operational, guiding ships safely along Ghana’s coast. Its main role? Helping vessels navigate the treacherous waters at night, avoiding dangerous underwater formations near Woe.

Our Adventure

I must admit that the looming presence of the metallic frame made me shiver! But my little one, however, with the help of a gentle and kind local guide, squared his shoulders and made it victoriously to the first landing. His face spoke volumes.

How to Get There

The lighthouse is conveniently located:

  • 10 km south of Keta
  • About 20 minutes by car from Keta town

Once in Woe, you’ll find the lighthouse along the coast, a perfect spot for pictures, history, and exploration.
