Easter Along The River

(4 customer reviews)

It’s that time of year again!
Four spirited siblings, 12-year-old Ami, 14-year-old Enam, 16-year-old Tafa, and 17-year-old Yao, are buzzing with excitement as they prepare for their annual trip to their hometown in the Volta Region of Ghana for the vibrant River Crossing Festival. Their journey promises scenic views, a colourful stop at the famous flowerpot town, riverside games, and the iconic Crossing Over ceremony.

But it’s not all smooth sailing. Will Ami be able to shed her ‘princess frock’ for the much simpler things of village life? What will happen when Enam bumps into his village rival after last year’s unpleasant encounter? Can Tafa finally unveil his authentic self? Will Yao be able to overcome his feelings of inadequacy as the eldest?

Join them on this life-changing adventure as they navigate personal challenges, strengthen community bonds, and immerse themselves in the rich Ewe culture.

An engaging History, Geography, Travel and Exploration, Socio-emotional development, and Cultural Studies living book. Great for middle grade, young adults, families, book clubs, homeschool spaces, and classrooms too.

  1. book

What I found very interesting is that the children’s games in Africa are the same as those in Switzerland or Europe. We also played the hopscotch game with the squares and the stone. And we also chewed the chewing gum, which becomes rock hard within a very short time. So funny. – Tabea Vischer, Switzerland

  2. book

Started reading your book this AM. My girls came around hovering with tons of questions… they want photos… – Mark Adamaley, Canada

  3. book

Enya is captivated by your book. Been on it since she got back from school…. the questions just dey flow. Me saf, I bore saf! I answered what I could but also asked her to follow up with you for answers …. – Dad of 9-year-old Enya

Reading this beautifully written book took me back to my own childhood experiences. I could very much identify with many of the experiences of the four siblings.

Now I have a book that I can read to my son to help recount more vividly my childhood memories and for him to learn of the richness of the African culture.

    I’d highly recommend this book.
